Many people who speak against network marketing always use the argument that you’re trying to get rich off your family and friends. They say if you get involved in a network marketing opportunity you’ll lose friends because you’re always trying to sell to them. So how true is this accusation?

Well if you look at the history of our industry it’s always been built around referrals and centres of influence. Historically because of the lack of technology in regards to communication, organic growth of business always happened from centres of influence and spread from there.

Any business person will tell you that the best form of business to have is referral business. This type of business creates loyalty and leads to further referrals. However as with any good business model there is a correct way to do it and an incorrect way to do it. In the past due Network Marketingto ineffective training this is why many people approached the business in the wrong way, which caused negative results to happen. Instead of treating their business opportunity as a profession many people looked at it as a get rich quick scheme. This cause them to badger their family and friends telling them how they will all going to be millionaires. So they constantly chased them and constantly told them about their brilliant business or their brilliant products and they couldn’t have normal conversations with.

A lack of training will cause you to be ineffective and it doesn’t matter how good your product or service is, if you’re not mentors and developed you will not be successful.

ProspectsNetwork marketing has and will always be a people business, So the main skill that person needs to develop when dealing with people is people skills. People skills will not only allow you to be successful in network marketing, but it will also allow you to be successful in every area of your life.

So should you approach your family and friends with your business opportunity or your products?

Depending on what your product or service is all depends on whether or not it is relevant to your family or friends. Some products and services are quite specialised where as others are more general. The most important thing to do would be to listen, have conversations and see if there’s a need in their life which your product or your service can fulfil. The beauty about effective listening is that, if there is clearly not a need in their life for your product or your service, then you do not have to present your product or your service. This way you can Prospect somebody and they don’t even know that you’re prospected them.

If you have a quality product or service and your friends and family have a need for it and you identify that need, why would you not want to tell them about it?

The best Prospecting tool you have is your mouth so you need to use it effectively.

Referrals from your family and friends are also very valuable because sometimes they may not have any interest in what you’re doing but may know somebody that does. I personally have made thousands of pounds and still make thousands of pounds every month as a result of a referral from a friend who does not want to do the business.

However your business will not stay there, it will move all over the place. In the past people wouldn’t run newspaper advertisement,the internet2 magazine advertisements, run classified ads, go out on the street prospecting, all types of things to get their business in front of as many people as possible. However today with the growth of technology and the Internet, people are now able to get their business in front of a lot more people.

Before it was all about being the hunter, whereas now you can have a combination of not just being the hunter but also being hunted by prospects who already know about you, have seen how you can add value to them and want to know how they can work with you. It is call Attraction Marketing. A really good ebook that explains this is Magnetic Sponsoring by a guy called Mike Dillard, this would be a great introduction to the concept.

So network marketing when done correctly is not just about your family friends but it’s about impacting as many lives as you can by mentoring, developing and training them to be successful. Whether these people be in your family or your friends or people that you’ve got through advertising or people that have approached you by finding you on the Internet, it doesn’t matter. The main thing that matters is that you are in a position to help them better themselves by Facilitating their success based on their desire to succeed.
